Made by Sport is keen to hear from organisations across the sport for development sector with grant-making experience, with a view to partnering on the administration of future funds. Supported by the Sport for Development Coalition, the charity is aiming to create a ‘preferred supplier’ list of partners to distribute funds on its behalf.

Dear Coalition member,

Made by Sport was launched in 2019, aiming to work alongside the Coalition to promote and raise funds for the sport for development sector. There has never been the intention for Made by Sport to distribute any funds raised, instead the aim is to be the convenor of funds and to work with existing sector partners to get any money raised out to organisations working on the ground.

Made by Sport’s first major success was securing a £4million donation to support clubs and community organisations in the sport for development sector with unrestricted grants of c£2,000.

Made by Sport continues to raise funding for the sector, and for future funds hopes to have a preferred supplier list of partners in the sector to distribute those funds on their behalf. To that end, Made by Sport is interested to hear from organisations in the sector with grant-making experience, who would be interested in partnering Made by Sport to administer any future funds.

For any given fund, Made by Sport would set the eligibility criteria, and would work with the distributor on the timelines and process of promotion, distribution and reporting on a fund-by-fund basis.

In order to get to the point of having a preferred supplier list, with support from the Coalition, Made by Sport is undertaking a tender process to enable organisations with grant-making capacity to put themselves forward. The process will be as follows:

  1. Organisations tender to become a preferred supplier. The tender document will include information on a variety of factors including capacity to deliver, fee structure, geographical spread, specific areas of expertise, monitoring / evaluation and reporting capacity, and track record in grant making.
  2. Based on those tenders, Made by Sport will agree a preferred supplier list – in consultation with its Board and with the Coalition.  An expert advisory panel, including the Executive Director of the Coalition, will assess the tender documents and make recommendations to the Made by Sport Board on which tenders to select.
  3. MOUs / preferred supplier agreements will be drawn up with those which are successful. These agreements will set out what type of grants a supplier would be well placed to support.
  4. Then, on a fund-by-fund basis, preferred suppliers will be shortlisted based on capacity and fit, and one will ultimately be selected to administer that pot of funding. This selection will be done through a fair and transparent process, matching a distributor with the requirements of a fund using a matrix will match the categories in the original tendering process, plus considering any specific requirements of the funder. If there is no one obvious organisation to deliver a particular fund, Made by Sport will revert to the same advisory panel to look at all potential suppliers and to make a recommendation to the Made by Sport Board.

If your organisation would like to be part of the tender process, or if you have any questions about being involved, please contact Jo Stocks [[email protected]] by Wednesday 23rd June.
